How To Stay Out Of Harm’s Way While Riding A Bicycle Jul 12

No matter how careful you are, sometimes accidents do happen. This is especially true with cycling. Oftentimes you ride through dangerous terrains or share the road with motorists. It’s important to maintain your safety at all times. And that’s why you should wear protective gears and abide by certain safe bike riding essentials.

Although protective wear will not prevent injuries from happening, they can lessen their severity. Wearing appropriate garments for bike riding, such as Pearl Izumi shorts and a matching top isn’t enough. These garments give you a certain level of protection all right, but there are other must-haves to be worn with them.

Wearing a helmet keeps your head from sustaining critical injuries. Studies have concluded that head injuries are reduced by 60 percent when a helmet is worn during a bicycling crash. However, it’s not enough that you put on any helmet type. Go for one that’s specifically designed for cycling. Look for that sticker or label saying it meets strict standards.

There are other protective wears other than a helmet. There are goggles that are shatter-proof, and gloves to protect your hands from friction. Shin guards, elbow and knee pads, etc. Are necessary, especially of you’re a beginner or into extreme biking sports. Also, there are shoes ideal for cycling, providing comfort and safety at the same time.

Sometimes, the Schwinn mountain bike, BMX or other bicycle models you buy don’t come accessorized completely. When riding your vehicle at night, it’s important to have both head and rear lights installed. The same is true with reflectors to make sure other motorists can spot you. Mirrors and horns are great additions as well.

Aside from wearing protective gears, knowing certain road rules will add to your safety when taking your bicycle out. See to it that you ride in a straight line and always use hand signals when turning or stopping. Behave like you’re also riding a car and drive defensively. Sometimes, common sense is important, such as avoiding busy roads for your own good.

Having a personal trainer is essential if you’re planning on becoming a professional cyclist. He or she will coach you the right way, each time your skill level advances. However, it’s not constantly that there’s someone to guide you while riding. Putting on proper protective gears and abiding by road rules will help minimize your risk of getting in an accident or injured.

Time To Work Off The Christmas Dinner? Jan 26

There are so many people out there that have chosen excercise as their New Year's resolution this year. Which is the best form of excercise to take?

Gym

The gym can be a great place to go to not only to exercise but for help on exactly what you need to do so lose that weight or work on those muscles. There are always trainers around that can help you out and help you to decide on what to do. There is of course a very big problem when it comes going to the gym and it is the cost, on top of this unless you are going with friends or have a very good music collection on the Pod you are going to be very bored. Often it is just too much money to afford and will stop you from getting things you want to buy for yourself.

Running

The great thing about running is that it is a very affordable way to get exercise. I would advise going out in the early mornings or just as the sun is setting to get the benefit of the cool weather. This is certainly something that can be good for the body as it will slowly introduce it to the excercise. Many people do not like running and this is down to the fact that they are doing it in public and feel uncomfortable.

Cycling

Cycling is of course another alternative and many new people take up cycling every year. With more and more people caring about the environment I can only see the amount of people using bikes for excercise increasing. Once again it would seem that the problem comes because it is costly. Look around for the best Zipp Wheels and Cycling Shoes as well as looking for the best bike like a Trek Madone.

There are so many other options out there to choose from such as weight lifting at home, swimming and you could even use the Wii. Teh best thing that I can suggest you do is just to go with what you feel comfortable doing.

Several Colors of Cycling Sunglasses Dec 22

Dirt, insects, the wind and sunlight, all these make bike riding almost impossible, particularly in competitions. Cycling sunglasses therefore have multiple protective functions, providing eye comfort and safety at the same time. Eye damage can occur when you leave the eyes unprotected against the ultraviolets and infrareds, not to mention that you can also get foreign bodies in the eyes as well. High quality shades make the difference between amateurs and pros. Here are some suggestions on how to choose cycling sunglasses for prolonged outdoor use, although the list will be far from complete.

Finding the right pair of cycling sunglasses is not easy. Lots of users are keen on a certain brand or product and when it goes out of stock or the style disappears, they are at a loss about what to find as substitutes for their old cycling sunglasses. The frames should insure a good match with the face, preferably with a wraparound style. Such designs will keep dirt, pollutants and sun rays away from your eyes. Wraparounds can trap moisture in the eye area and make the lenses foggy, therefore, check the design for air wholes in the frames.

Many pros choose cycling sunglasses with interchangeable lenses. You should change the lenses depending on weather variations because the needs differ on bright sunshine or dull overcast days. Cycling sunglasses with gray lenses work great for almost all types of weather. However, amber lenses make terrain variations more obvious and yellow ones are ideal on foggy weather. Interchangeable cycling sunglasses are definitely more expensive, but they are definitely worthy the investment if cycling is a life style for the wearer.

Depending on individual needs, cycling sunglasses could be made on prescription. Eye correction could be necessary on a regular basis and without the adjustments made to the sunglasses you won’t be able to enjoy such eyewear. The prescription lenses could be attached or adjusted behind the standard cycling ones by means of a special mechanism. As for the regular pricing, the cost of the best cycling sunglasses varies between $ 100 and $ 200, but many good items come a bit cheaper. Sports stores often have sales and promotions and you can get some serious discounts too, which should make quality eyewear more accessible to the average user.

cycling – Folding Bike – Why the New Range of Folding Bike Models Are Becoming Popular Oct 26

Cycling

Like many sports, professional bicyclists wear a self-fashioned uniform consisting of a cycling jersey, cycling shorts, cycling shoes, gloves and a helmet. When you hear the word cycling, most people conjure up an image of Lance Armstrong and the Tour de France. He wears the traditional cycling uniform.

In fact, manufacturers of cycles that fold up, typically design them specifically for getting you from your house to another mode of transportation. So whether you need to get to a bus stop, subway station or train station, this type of two-wheeler is perfect for your needs. While these bikes aren’t designed to give you a shot at winning the Tour de France, they’ll the perfect type of urban transport when you need to travel short distances quickly.

Besides their convenient function, another reason why these cycles are so popular is based on their form. These bicycles have 20-inch wheels like the BMX bicycles that many of us rode when we were youngsters. They also typically contain two main hinges: one on the handlebars and one at the middle of the cross member. Collapsing the cycle is a piece of cake. Afterwards, you can easily tote the bicycle around wherever you need to go, such as on a subway train or bus. This contraption makes it easier to take your cycle virtually anywhere.

Furthermore, a folding bike is typically available in one size. So there’s no need to spend time and effort determining which size cycle is the right one for you. Making simple adjustments (such as the height of the seat post) can easily transform the two-wheeler into the perfect size for your particular needs.

Another crucial tip when selecting trek bikes is to choose the right number of gears. It’s important to select a mechanism that meets your particular cycling needs. You should base the number of gears that you need, on where you ride and how you ride. If you basically ride on level terrain, then a double crankset (usually 20 gears) would be sufficient. However, if you ride on various types of terrains (including hills, plateaus, and mountains) then you’ll probably need a triple crankset (usually 30 gears). You’d also typically require additional gears for applications such as training and racing.

There are two other accessories that are vital to a cyclist success: gloves and a helmet. The gloves serve several purposes. First, they offer a more stable grip. In addition, they help absorb shock and sweat. Finally, during colder weather they can keep a cyclist hand’s warm or offer skin protection in the event of a fall. The other critical accessory is the helmet. Today?s helmets are shaped to offer maximum aerodynamics while providing a measure of safety for the cyclist. These newer helmets actually cradle the head and can be adjusted to fit snuggly. Unfortunately, these new helmets provide most of the protection toward the front of the helmet so they are not useable for other sports like skateboarding or inline skating

Buying A Mountain Bike With MTB Finance Oct 23

It can be a bit frustrating as well as time consuming when you buy a mountain bike. Take a look at these tips to help you when you are deciding on which mountain bike to buy.

Determining your price
Before you start shopping, set yourself a budget and stick to this. When you buy, you shouldn’t buy from mass merchant stores. Your local retailer will be able to offer you competitive deals and a better service. They might have a store online and you can make use of MTB finance, which helps when paying off a big sum.

Finding your style
There are bikes designed for every type of surface and terrain. If you prefer one type of riding over the rest, pick a bike with this purpose. Smooth riding, cross country racing, mountain cruising, or lift accessed downhill is something you need to figure out. make sure the bike you choose is based on your decision, not the preferences of the sales team.

Sales and seasons
During the year, the prices of mountain bikes can fluctuate quite a bit. Spring through summer is the main buying season. If you are not desperate for a new bike in the summer, wait until autumn or winter and you could save yourself two, maybe three hundred pounds. If you are buying accessories at the same time you might be able to get a discount too.

Finding a good dealer
Try to find a dealer you are comfortable with rather than focusing on the cheapest price. If they try to sell you a bike because it is expensive rather than it suiting you properly, find another seller. Trust should be established between you and the dealer and their services should be professional. Look for a professional, a biking enthusiast and a trustworthy dealer.

Doing the research
Before you buy a bike, do a bit of research and you will find some reviews commenting on the performance and reliability of the bike. Look at what other people say about brands or models, if they are all bad, do not waste your time looking at them, but pay attention to manufacturers who receive consistently good reviews.

Best Sports For Enhancing Your CV Ability Oct 21

For those of you who don’t know CV (cardio vascular) fitness refers to the ability of the heart and lungs to provide the body with enough nutrients (mainly oxygen) for it to function during activity and remove waste products such as carbon dioxide and lactic acid also. A CV system that is in good shape will allow an athlete to work harder and for longer periods of time. Some sports such as weight lifting don’t develop the CV system very well as very little oxygen is required by the muscles. Some sports however do ask a lot of the CV system. Lets take a closer look at 3 of the most demanding sports on the CV system.

Skiing. It has been proven that cross-country skiing demands more of the cardio vascular system than any other sport. This is because competitive events usually take place over very long distances and skiers encounter lots of different inclines to conquer. Additionally, because almost all the muscles of the body are working at the same time in this sport, the CV system need to be in great shape to make sure each of them gets the nutrients they need. So if you’re looking to build your CV system, switch your snowboards for skis next time you’re on the slopes.

Cycling. The sport of cycling (specifically road riding) is one tough exercise on the heart and lungs. The 7 time Tour De France winner Lance Armstrong is testament to that, having one of the highest VO2 max scores of any athlete. This refers to the amount of 02 that the body can take in and the muscles can use in 1 minute. Based on that evidence, if you’re thinking about getting rid of your old cycling machine or mountain bikes, you might want to think again.

Kayaking. Although kayaking does not use the lower body as much as other sports do, it still punishes the heart and lungs more than most. This is largely down to the fact that kayakers use their upper-bodies a vast amount and there are hundreds of smaller muscles here demanding the large supply of oxygen and removal of lots of carbon dioxide. For second hand kayaks and extreme sports equipment check out EST.
